Brass mirror
Made of 3 mm thick brass protected with lacquer
Dimensions 81 x 69 cm
I made this painting according to the idea of Arthur Vallin, who is a designer working in New York. He was inspired by the artworks of the painter J.M.W. Turner and asked me to reproduce on brass a similar effect as can be seen in the paintings. In the landscapes painted by Turner, light plays a major role for me – it vibrates with a metallic sheen, like flames spreading on canvas.
I wanted to achieve a similar effect on brass – both with the color range and the effect of spreading on the surface. At the top, I polished the brass into a mirror, and then made a gentle transition into an increasingly matte surface. I secured the whole with varnish.
