Metal wall art – the Sun
Made of 1 mm thick carbon steel, the surface is black oxidised
and 1 mm thick corten, naturally rusted
Dimensions 92 x 92 cm
The last photo is a photo of the Sun taken by NASA (from https://bigthink.com/hard-science/iss-sun-photo/). I was surprised by the color and texture of the sun’s surface. I have always associated the sun with bright gold, and here corten immediately came to my mind. I have been wondering for a long time how I can recreate this view in metal, which both surprised me and delighted me at the same time. And this is how this artwork was created. I have rust Corten several times to most accurately reproduce the surface of the sun from a NASA photo, until I finally succeeded. You can see it especially in the close-up with the mosquito :).
The artwork consists of two plates: black oxidized steel as a frame and corten as the sun, the latter one is mounted with a two-centimeter distance. Lighting is mounted between them to create the impression of a three-dimensional and even better reproduce the incandescent sun.
It will fit well in modern interiors – loft and minimalist, dominated by natural materials. It looks good with its negative – “black planet”.
